Cherry
The Cherry Tree is a fruit bearing tree which makes it part of the rose family.  It can be found throughout the Mid West  and Eastern US.  The average height of a cherry tree id 60 to 80 feet and can live to the ripe old age of 150 to 200 years.

The original American Colonists used the Cherry Tree for food from it's fruit. They used the bark for medicinal purposes like the treatment of bronchitis.  The stalks were actually used to make tonics.  They used the wood to make furniture. So all of this tree was well used.

Today cherry wood is used for fine furniture and cabinet making. It is widely used in mouldings and millwork including paneling, flooring and doors.  It is also commonly used in boat interiors, musical instruments.  It make beautiful turnings and carvings.

The heartwood of the cherry tree varies from a rich red to reddish brown and darkens with age.  The sap wood is a creamy white. Cherry wood has a straight grain that is very uniform, with a satiny and smooth texture.  Some pieces contain small gum pockets and pith flecks.
