Ash if a domestic hardwood. It is best known as the wood of choice for baseball bats. But it also has a variety of other uses, including tool handles, hockey sticks and oar paddles. Because this wood has no significant odor or taste this wood was used for food bowls.
There are about 70 differnt species of Ash. They are in the Olive family since their oil is chemically similar to olive oil. This Ash Tree is never found in pure stands but it is widely distributed among other species.
White Ash has a clear white to pale yellow sapwood and the heartwoods has a light to medium brown tone. It is a tough wood with excellent steam bending characteristics. Thus making it an excellent wood for curved componsnts in furniture, snowshoes and boats.
Ash works easily with had and power tools and glues well.
